Aims for the IFF Feldenkrais Research Journal (Draft, March 2014)

The IFF Feldenkrais Research Journal is an international, interdisciplinary journal concerned with research issues for the Feldenkrais professional field, and those interested in this form of somatic learning in human development. The Journal is aiming at a “dialogue within the professional field about research – and a dialogue with science and scientists about their practice. This Journal will be part of that process.” (Smyth, 2001, Foreword, IFF Research Journal, Vol. 1).

The IFF Feldenkrais Research Journal:

  1. Aims to promote education, writing, discussion, debate on issues of research in relation to the theory and practice of the Feldenkrais Method, and its conceptual and methodological relevance for other fields of research and practice.
  2. Aims to contribute to the development of ongoing networking, collaboration, and promotion of research into the Feldenkrais Method, and in relation to other fields of research and practice.
  3. Will publish original articles that, for example:
    • discuss the theory, methods and practice of research
    • discuss the nature of the key research questions for Feldenkrais Method
    • review Feldenkrais theory in relation to research
    • report on the outcomes of research studies, including trials, project reports, case reports and single-case research studies of the Feldenkrais Method, and other relevant studies
    • review published Feldenkrais research studies
    • report on developments in research into the Feldenkrais Method and related fields
    • report on conferences, meetings, and publications, relevant to the study of the Feldenkrais Method.
  4. Will republish, with permission, research studies published elsewhere, especially those that are difficult to access in other locations or formats.
  5. Will seek to translate and publish the translations of important articles into languages commonly spoken by practitioners in the Feldenkrais professional community.
  6. Includes in its scope, the Feldenkrais Method itself, other modes of human education and development, and relevant theoretical perspectives.
  7. Welcomes contributions from Feldenkrais practitioners, as well as researchers and theorists from related fields.
